Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang has agreed to join Barcelona on a sensational free transfer from Arsenal on the frantic deadline day for club transfers.
The 32-year-old Gabon striker signed the deal late on Monday evening ahead of the set deadline on the midnight of January for clubs to complete player transfers.
Aubameyang was stripped of the Arsenal captaincy following a disciplinary breach in December and had 18 months left on his contract. The club is expected to save around £25m in wages by moving him on permanently rather than on loan.
The former Borussia Dortmund man has now completed his medical in Catalonia and prepares to leave Arsenal after being exiled from the squad under Miker Arteta
The former Arsenal captain’s departure leaves Mikel Arteta’s side with just Alexandre Lacazette and Eddie Nketiah as his forwards for the remainder of the season both of them being out of contract in the summer.
Aubameyang registered 92 goals and 21 assists in 163 appearances for the Gunners across all competitions during his four years in North London, winning the FA Cup and Community Shield in that time.
