Boda Boda operators are once again on the spotlight after a Nairobi-based boda boda rider punched a police officer in the head yesterday evening along Bunyala road.
The suspect attacked a police officer who was clearing an accident scene involving the suspect’s motorcycle and a private vehicle.
A one-minute video footage circulating on social media shows the suspect approaching the police officer and attacked him.
The police officer is said to have been on his way to work when he came across a road accident and stooped to check what happened.
Police officers passing by were alerted by boda boda riders to come and salvage the situation after they had pursued the suspect for arrest by the officers.
Boda boda riders at the scene faulted their colleague’s behavior adding that these are the kind of people ruining their reputation as boda bada riders.
The suspect was taken to Central Police Station, where he spent night and is expected to be arraigned in court for assault and obstructing a police officer from executing his duties, contrary to section 103 (a) of the National Police Service Act.
The incident comes barely a week after an attack by boda boda riders on a female motorist on Forest Road Nairobi, these caused public uproar in the country that led to a major crackdown in the boda boda sector.
